The Senseo Coffee Machine is a ground-breaking coffee machine introduced by Philips and Sara Lee International that has impressed coffee drinkers the world-over.
Through a combination of great-tasting coffee, modern design, and an advanced, but simple-to-use technology, the Senseo Coffee Machines have made drinking coffee enjoyable again. Over 95% of the more than 20 million people who have purchased a Senseo Coffee Machine are happy.
History
In the mid-to-late ‘90’s, in an effort to stifle diminishing coffee consumption, Douwe Egberts started a range of projects under the mutual code name “Decathlon”. The main idea being to provide the coffee consumer with products that appealed to their individualism, made the coffee-making experience easy and simple, and that were of exceptional quality.
Douwe Egberts and Philips knew that coffee drinking was changing, and that people were drinking coffee by the cup, not the pot, but still wanted fresh-brewed coffee. A challenge was presented.
Netherlands-based WeLL Design was engaged by Douwe Egberts to manage the Senseo project. WeLL Design’s role in the project included project leadership and manufacturer sourcing. A team of five people, over two years, developed the Senseo Crema machine, creating 10 prototypes with a Chinese manufacturer before releasing the project to Philips.
In 2001, Philips and Sara Lee International partnered and, in the Netherlands, the Senseo Coffee Machine was introduced to the market, followed by Belgium, France, Germany, Denmark, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia.
Awards
The Senseo Coffee Machines have received numerous awards since being introduced in 2001, including the Bronze Effie Award in the Netherlands (2001), the Design Award in France (2002), the Product of the Year Award in Germany (2004), the ChefsBest Award for Performance (date unknown).
About The Senseo Coffee Machine
The Senseo Coffee Machine is not an espresso machine; it is a single-serving coffee system that uses pre-made Senseo Coffee Pods (or aftermarket versions of the same) to produce fresh-tasting coffee in less than a 2 minutes – faster when the machine is already warmed up.
Through the use of the coffee pod system, the Senseo Coffee Machine combines the perfect ratio of coffee grinds and water to produce rich, bold flavors and a cup that is neither too weak nor too strong.
Colors
Currently available in black, white, blue, and red, there are enough color models to fit your personal taste and match the essence of your kitchen, home, or office. To date, the most popular color (in Europe) is the black model.
